Lauryn Hill was reportedly supposed to surprise us all by joining The Weeknd to perform at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards Monday night, but she never showed up.
Earlier on Monday, Complex Magazine reported Hill would perform. The magazine shared a series of Instagram posts which showed her practicing with The Weeknd.
However, when The Weeknd took the stage to perform his hit singles “Can't Feel My Face” and “In the Night,” Hill was nowhere to be seen.
In a statement released to Billboard Magazine, Hill's camp said her performance was announced "prematurely and without approval."
“Ms. Hill had concerts all weekend, leaving no time to prepare, and was uncertain she would even be able to make it to LA in time to rehearse for the event,” the statement said.
“Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such. Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition.”
Billboard noted Hill was not among the artists officially announced to preform at the Grammys.
