Summer movie season is upon us. And by that we mean movies being shot in metro Atlanta and elsewhere in Georgia, thanks as always to the state’s enticing tax incentives for filming folks. Here’s a look at what’s rolling these days.

“The Circle,” a homegrown horror film by Midtown’s Spitfire Studios, has been filming in East Atlanta and Snellville. It stars Chelsey Crisp, who has appeared on TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles,” and Riley Smith, known for his role on the modern “90210.” The plot: “Six friends explore the charred remains of a burned out prison and end up discovering far more than they hoped for.”

“Solace,” a thriller with Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell as a psychic doctor and an FBI agent who try to solve murders, filmed in Midtown this week.

“Need for Speed,” starring Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Rami Malek (“Night at the Museum”) and Michael Keaton (“Beetlejuice,” “Batman,” etc.), is a movie about a street racer who seeks revenge on a former business partner who double-crossed him. It has filmed in Macon and Rome and heads to Columbus next. Here at home, the project has filmed at locations including the Marietta Square, STK in Midtown and the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead.

“Let’s Be Cops,” starring Nina Dobrev of “Vampire Diaries” fame, is a comedy about a bunch of friends who pretend to be cops and things go haywire. It and “Need for Speed” have filmed at the American Cancer Society building downtown, according to a notice sent to affected workers.

“The Homesman” reunites Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep, who starred in “Hope Springs.” This one is a period piece set in pioneer days. It filmed for a few days in Historic Westville, a living history museum in Lumpkin that approximates life in the 1850s.

“Endless Love,” the creepy 1981 teen romance flick that starred Brooke Shields and launched Tom Cruise’s film career, is being remade in Atlanta this summer. The new version stars Alex Pettyfer (“Magic Mike”) and Gabriella Wilde (“The Three Musketeers”). It’s filmed at Agnes Scott College, in Midtown and in Fayetteville.

“Million Dollar Arm,” a baseball-themed movie starring Jon Hamm, heads our way next. Don Draper has already been spotted in Atlanta, hanging out with Robin Williams several weeks ago. Williams was here for a different movie, “A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle,” which filmed in Stone Mountain and Norcross.

“Blended,” with “50 First Dates” and “Wedding Singer” co-stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, started out in South Africa and is going to be filming at Lake Lanier later this summer.
