Want some scares this Halloween? There are plenty of options in the Atlanta area. From family-friendly to don't go alone films, here's our round-up of the best Halloween flicks in town:
Atlantic Station is showing free movies every Friday night in October leading up to Halloween. The shows begin at dusk. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and snacks while they enjoy the flicks, two of which are family-friendly and two not so much
October 7: Twilight
October 14: Monster House
October 21: The Sixth Sense
October 28: Hocus Pocus
The Plaza Theater in Midtown shows Rocky Horror Picture Show every Friday night at 11:55 p.m. The movie is very interactive with many fans dressing up and bringing props. Tickets are $13 each. Check the Plaza's coming soon page for some scarier films in October too. Also at the Plaza and at Mammal Gallery in downtown Atlanta, it's the 10th annual Atlanta Horror Film Festival featuring a bunch of movies you probably haven't seen. The festival runs Thurs.-Sun., Oct. 13-16. Tickets are $10 per film.
If you want something classy and scary how about Jack Nicholson rambling around a lodge with an axe? Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" is screening at select theaters nationwide and at about a half dozen in metro Atlanta on Sun., Oct. 23 and Wed., Oct. 26. Do you want a little sip with your scare? Martinis and Imax at Fernbank Museum will host a special Halloween fright night showing on Friday, October 28. Along with a special drink menu, live music and a costume contest, there will be two Imax movies showing: A Beautiful Planet and Dinosaurs Alive. The event starts at 7 pm and tickets start at $8.
