We put out a call for folks who work in Georgia’s filming community in one capacity or another, to ask if anyone felt thankful for the state’s ever-growing status as a destination for movie and television projects. We figured we might hear from extras grateful to nab some experience and a few bucks, or restaurant owners glad to see bold-names guests breaking bread there. That sort of thing.
We did not count on hearing from a professional like Dr. Karen Joanson of Buckhead Family Chiropractic.
“I am thankful for being able to go on-set and have the industry come to my office when needed,” she said. “The production offices will directly call me for an actor, crew and office person if in need of a chiropractor.”
Her “credits,” as she put it, include the locally produced television shows “Drop Dead Diva” and “The Vampire Diaries,” the miniseries “The Red Road” and feature films including “Fast & Furious 5” and “Fast & Furious 7,” along with “The Hunger Games” sequel and threequel.
“The stress of relocating, hotel beds and the crazy work hours always adds to why they need a chiropractor,” Joanson said. “On some of the action movies, it’s definitely a lot of low back and neck issues. If an actor is hurt, it puts a strain on the whole production, so I will go and hopefully make that person better and filming can continue.”
So, here’s to happily adjusted actors.
“Dumb and Dumber” sequel wraps
“Dumb & Dumber 2,” which has been filming in Atlanta, hits theaters in November 2014, according to Hitfix.
The Jeff Daniels-Jim Carrey comedy (whose proper title, if you can call it proper, is actually the grammatically disastrous "Dumb and Dumber To") filmed in a number of metro Atlanta locations, including the Marietta Square, Grantville, Cabbagetown, Gwinnett Center, Stone Mountain and Brookhaven.
Filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly kept fans up to date on the movie's progress with funny Twitter updates and photos. They posted a photo of Bill Murray on the set recently. Other cameos reportedly will include Jennifer Lawrence, who of course has been in town filming "Mockingjay."
The Farrellys have shot two other movies in Atlanta — “Hall Pass” and “The Three Stooges” — and have taken quite a shine to Johnny’s Hideaway, the timeless Buckhead bar and dance hall. They filmed a scene there for “Hall Pass” and took their D&D crew there for a visit. During a recent interview at the Buckhead Barnes & Noble, where Carrey made an appearance to read and sign copies of his children’s book, he told us about experiencing the wonders of Johnny’s. Sounds like they’ve had some magical times there.
Anyway, based on more Twitter postings, it looks like Team D&D II had their wrap party at Johnny’s and are now Done and Doner. Until next time!
