Daza Dance Ballroom Academy in Johns Creek is no stranger to shuffling feet. But on Thursday night, the stars will be dancing.
The dance studio will be the site of the after-party following the premiere of "Love N' Dancing," an independent feature film starring Amy Smart, Tom Malloy and Billy Zane, at Regal Medlock Crossing 18. The romantic drama, which centers around the dips and twists of competitive West Coast swing dancing, opens May 8 in select cities and May 15 in Atlanta.
Why are festivities usually reserved for the likes of Los Angeles or New York coming to Johns Creek? Credit native Atlantan and Daza CEO Elizabeth Chester, executive producer of the film.
"Bringing the premiere to Johns Creek is certainly a milestone for the community," Chester says, "and I also know that it brings a lot of visibility to the love of dance and our dance studio where we teach that passion."
The filmmakers enlisted the help of many real-life dancers to not only dance, but act in the film. Pro hoofers Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollman were among them, and they're scheduled to perform at the premiere party. Smart ("Scrubs"), who portrays a schoolteacher and aspiring dancer, and Malloy ("The Alphabet Killer"), who stars as her deaf dance instructor and partner, may recreate a scene or two from the film. Members of the Daza crew will show off a few moves of their own. And the public will have the opportunity to hit Daza's floating dance floor, too.
