Shailene Woodley, who stars in the three-tissue-box movie "The Fault in Our Stars," happened to be in Atlanta when it was time for the drama based on John Green's young-adult novel to hit the big screen. So a star-studded "Stars" premiere was held here.
Woodley and Green, along with co-stars Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff, director Josh Boone and producer Wyck Godfrey, attended the packed premiere, held at the Hollywood Regal Theater in Chamblee last week.
“We are very close,” Green said. While he was kind of blue that filming had ended, he said, “We are very happy to share the movie with you.”
In "Stars," Woodley plays Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old cancer patient who meets and falls in love with August Waters (Elgort), who has lost his leg to cancer. Wolff plays Isaac, a mutual friend who lost his eyesight due to cancer.
As part of the exclusive screening event, the cast shared intimate moments that happened during filming, from Green’s on-screen debut (left on the cutting-room floor) to Woodley’s camera-caught bee sting. Green joked she was more concerned with the bee than the fact that she was in pain.
“We need bees,” Woodley said.
She'll be here a good part of the summer filming "Insurgent," also starring Theo James, Jai Courtney, Naomi Watts, Zoë Kravitz, Maggie Q, Ray Stevenson, Suki Waterhouse, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Dae Kim, Miles Teller and Jonny Weston. The second in the "Divergent" series, the movie is filming south of Atlanta at the moment and heads to other locations soon.
Woodley is no stranger to Georgia, by the way. She and Teller starred in last year's "The Spectacular Now," which was filmed in Athens and directed by Athens native James Ponsoldt. That project, which also starred Kyle Chandler and Jennifer Jason Leigh, premiered to raves at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival although it had a limited Atlanta release.
