Paramount Pictures released a new trailer for the next installment in its Star Trek reboot Friday night, and from the looks of it, the crew of the Enterprise are in for a rough ride.
"Star Trek Beyond" will hit the big screen nationwide on July 22.
"In 'Beyond' the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test," according to Paramount Pictures.
The trailer was released Friday during a fan event, according to The Verge. The movie will have its world premiere "in an outdoor IMAX presentation, complete with a live orchestral score," during San Diego Comic-Con on July 20, The Verge reported.
The trailer is the second released for "Star Trek Beyond." The first one went out in December to decidedly mixed reviews.
"It doesn't have that element that made Star Trek, Gene Roddenbury's Star Trek, what it was," George Takai, who played Hikaru Sulu in the original "Star Trek" television series, said in an interview with Tech Insider. "It looks like a terrific action adventure movie."
Speaking with Hey U Guys after the release of the trailer, Pegg said the first trailer focused on the action, likely to bring in more viewers from outside the Trek-fandom. "I know there's a lot more to the film," he said. "There's a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and a lot more of what I would call 'Star Trek stuff.'"
The film was directed by Justin Lin, of "Fast & Furious" fame, and co-written by Pegg and Doug Jung. It stars Idris Elba, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana, among others.
