Boy-band producer and Ponzi scam artist Lou Pearlman is dead, according to reports. He was 62.

Pearlman is listed as "deceased" Friday, according to a search of federal inmates.

Pearlman became a music mogul as producer of boy bands including Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and O-Town. Pearlman was also embroiled in a $300 million Ponzi scheme. He was convicted of charges including conspiracy, money laundering and making false statements in 2008 and sentenced to serve 25 years in federal prison.

Lance Bass, who was a key member of NSYNC shared his thoughts about Pearlman's death in a tweet.

"He might not have been a stand up businessman, but I wouldn't be doing what I love today (without) his influence," Bass said.
