ROSWELL

Tea with Beatrix Potter

Before there was Harry, Beatrix was the only important Potter to kids. Set in the English countryside, her stories were filled with memorable characters like Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck. To celebrate this world of childhood favorites, historic Barrington Hall in Roswell is holding a tea with “Beatrix Potter” reading her stories, and a special puppet presentation. The two-hour event includes games, crafts and visiting bunnies in the gardens — this time, however, there won’t be any Mr. McGregors to chase them out! Seats at the tea table are expected to fill quickly; reservations are required.

1-3 p.m. May 10. $10 for children and adults. Barrington Hall, 535 Barrington Drive, Roswell. 770-640-3855, www.roswellgov.com.

ATLANTA

SCAD Puppetmation

If you’re feeling a little too grown up for a Peter Rabbit puppet show, come see what the Center for Puppetry Arts has to offer Saturday evening instead. Students from the Savannah College of Art and Design will present a series of short animated films, all featuring puppets. Each film comes from SCAD students at one of the school’s three campuses — Atlanta, Savannah or Hong Kong. The techniques used to create the films range from traditional stop-motion animation to cutting-edge computer effects, inspired by the latest in puppetry mechanics and aesthetics. After the screenings, SCAD’s animation faculty and students will lead a discussion. The event is aimed at viewers age 16 and older.

7 p.m. May 10. $7 for all ages; free for center members. Center for Puppetry Arts, 1404 Spring St., Atlanta. 404-873-3391, www.puppet.org.
