WOODSTOCK
“Nunsense” at City Center Auditorium
Flying nuns, machine-gun-toting nuns, we’ve seen it all. But if you’ve not yet witnessed this musical, you may not believe how twisted these sisters can get. From the mind of playwright Dan Goggin comes “Nunsense,” the story of a convent of wacky nuns from Mount Saint Helens School. It’s a return engagement at Elm Street Cultural Arts Village, so who knows what surprises they may have tucked in their habits. Those who bring a can of soup, stew or chili, or a jar of peanut butter to donate to Papa’s Pantry receive a complimentary drink during intermission. The show is a bit saucy, and the producers recommend it for ages 13 and older.
7:30 p.m. Aug. 9, 16-17; 2 p.m. Aug. 11 and 18. $10-$15. City Center Auditorium, 8534 Main St., Woodstock. 678-494-4251, www.elmstreetarts.org.
PEACHTREE CITY
Grand Funk Railroad and Spin Doctors at Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater
That American band, Grand Funk Railroad, chugs into the Fred for an evening of greatest hits. Although original lead vocalist and guitarist Mark Farner is glaringly absent, the other two are still riding the train: drummer-vocalist Don Brewer and bassist Mel Schacher. It was Brewer who wrote and sang the band’s signature tune “We’re an American Band.” Former Kiss ax man Bruce Kulick handles lead guitar. Singer Max Carl takes on Farner’s challenging vocal duties. Tim Cashion plays keyboards. Spin Doctors open the evening with a catalog of their own 1990s hits, including “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong.”
8 p.m. Aug. 10. $45 lawn seats; $50-$65 reserved seats; $600 tables for six. Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater, 201 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City. 770-631-0630, www.ticketalternative.com.
