Sheryl Underwood at The Punchline

Fans of “The Talk” may only know one side of Sheryl Underwood. As a co-host of the CBS show, Underwood often relies on her humorous perspective as she and the rest of the cast, including Sharon Osbourne, wax on current events. But those looking to see Underwood in her natural habitat can catch the comedian live on the stand-up stage. Don’t let the beaming, toothy smile fool you. She’s been known to unleash enough raunchy quips to make a grizzled truck driver blush. Underwood has the comedic mettle to handle the taboo, leaving audience members with plenty of things to talk about themselves.

MORROW

The Glenn Miller Orchestra at Clayton State University

In his day, Glenn Miller remained the Babe Ruth of the big band genre. Today his band continues swinging, attempting to hit it out of the park in honor of its namesake. The iconic band leader played his last note in 1944, but his group reconvened in the late ’50s. Now 70 years after Miller’s departure, Atlanta native and vocalist Nick Hilscher helms as music director. The band honors an era with faithful renditions of “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and more. Don’t be surprised if Hilscher handles his duties donned in retro duds. Keep an ear out for vocalist Julia Rich, who jumps in to help serve some timelessness.

ALPHARETTA

Charity Wine Tasting at Tinder Box/Vino 100

Local wine aficionados can rely on corks popping each week at this longtime event. Guests have the opportunity to sample a total of five wines, including three reds and two whites. Those who love learning more about each respective libation can take advantage of the complimentary tasting sheet, which provides information about what’s on the table. A light food spread compliments the tasting, as does a soothing soundtrack. The latter comes from the guitar of Timothy Price, an acoustic finger-style picker in the vein of Chet Atkins. While you can count on Price to delve into standards and a bite of jazz, recent additions to his repertoire include some Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton. Want to do some wine shopping in the process? The staff says a popular choice is their mix-and-match special. Customers can select six individual bottles and score a 10 percent discount. Half of the proceeds from the tasting go to a different charity each week. This time the recipient is Home of Hope, which benefits disadvantaged and disabled youth.
