NORCROSS

Carriage rides in Downtown Norcross

Those visiting Downtown Norcross during the holidays have one more chance to hitch a ride for a magical jaunt through the area. Hear those jingle bells? That means a white horse might be coming with an old-school carriage in tow. These carriage rides are part of the city’s Sparkle holiday celebration. To hop aboard, wait outside Taste of Britain on South Peachtree Street. The ride provides a great way to soak up the area’s homespun holiday decor and its dining and shopping options. The best part: It’s free. Those looking for a last-minute session with Santa can find him inside the nearby 45 South Cafe on South Peachtree Street.

ALPHARETTA

“Home for Christmas” at ACT1 Theater

Most everyone can identify with a holiday family reunion. It can sometimes be joyful, sometimes painful. Yet, this time audience members are off the emotional hook and become a fly on the wall as they watch the Clayton family gather for the season. Based on a 1937 novella, “Home for Christmas” tells the story of a holiday gathering rooted in the fact it might be the matriarch’s last Christmas. Mother Clayton has a serious heart condition, and this causes her children, coming from all directions, to reunite for one more holiday dinner with mom. Have a meal of your own before the Dec. 22 show. Mittie’s Tea Room Café (62 N. Main St., Alpharetta) offers a special lunch and show package that includes a meal and a ticket for $25.

Its spin on the Charles Dickens classic combines the time-honored tale with song parodies of familiar Broadway ditties. Created by Kathy Feininger and directed by David Thomas, this year’s show features a cast including Doug Graham, Keena Redding-Hunt, Patrick Hutchinson on piano and Theo Harness as Scrooge. If you’ve seen it before, keep in mind ART Station has some surprises under its figurative tree. The producers promise some new additions this time around.
