The family of a girl with cancer is praising Miranda Lambert for the touching moment they shared at the country star's recent concert, and hopes it raises awareness for their foundation that helps other kids who are fighting the disease, her family told The Today Show.

Brooke Hester, 7,  has fought neuroblastoma – a cancer that forms in nerve tissue – for more than half her young life. After years of chemotheraphy and other treatments, she and her mother found some relief in Lambert’s recent concert at American Bank Center Arena, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Lambert was singling “Over You” when she spotted Brooke in a pink cowboy hat in the front row. The Grammy winner accepted a gift from Brooke – a flower from the girl’s hat – before taking her hand. In the 17 seconds they held hands, Lambert choked up and pointed the mic to the crowd, who finished singing the song. the singer could be seen wiping tears  from her face, long after she’d stepped away from Brooke.
