Atlanta event looks at Prince in movies
The African American Film Critics Association will recognize the film legacy of Prince with a series of special screenings and panel discussions in several U.S. cities, including Atlanta.
“Prince was one of the few black musicians who enjoyed success in cinema,” said AAFCA President Gil Robertson. “His aptitude as a visual artist was stunning and continues to be influential today.”

The critics association is working in conjunction with several library systems.
Prince, who died on April 21 in his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis, starred in “Under the Cherry Moon”, “Purple Rain” and “Grafitti Bridge.”
Prince played his final full concert at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
AAFCA’s “Celebration of Prince in Cinema” will be held at 3 p.m. April 30 at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, 101 Auburn Ave. NE. The event is free.
Panelists include Ernie Suggs, a reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution; Christopher Daniels, visiting instructor at Georgia State University; and Stephane Dunn, associate professor and director of the Cinema, Television, & Emerging Media Studies program at Morehouse College.
Meanwhile, fans lined up outside of Paisley Park to honor the beloved musician.
