Tyler Perry spent $45,000 for his birthday, but not on himself.
The entertainment mogul made a surprise visit to Young People Matter, which operates a metro Atlanta youth shelter and offers a number of programs to at-risk young people, over the weekend. He delivered a check in an amount coinciding with his 45th birthday.
“Thank you to Tyler Perry, who stopped by our youth shelter, spent time speaking with our residents and made a contribution on behalf of our efforts to save our shelter,” facility organizers said. “The kids and the entire YPM team love you and so appreciate you for taking the time to come yourself, during your 45th birthday weekend. To God be the glory.”
The organization was launched in 2007. The emergency shelter, which opened in 2011, was in danger of closing due to lack of funds. Perry learned of the shelter’s imperiled state from local news reports and decided to get involved.
Andrew Bostic, president of the board for Young People Matter, encouraged others to join with Perry in supporting the facility.

New ‘Vacation’ to film in Atlanta
Atlanta native Ed Helms takes the driver's seat for a reboot of the madcap Chevy Chase comedy from the 1980s. The project, also starring Leslie Mann and Christina Applegate, isn't exactly a remake. Reports Variety: "Helms is starring as Rusty Griswold, the grown-up son of Clark Griswold, who takes a family trip similar to the one he took as a boy. Mann will play Rusty's sister Audrey Griswold, who was played by Dana Barron in the 1983 original." (Anthony Michael Hall played Rusty in the original film.)
Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, who played Clark's wife, Ellen Griswold, in the original, are expected to appear as well.
Vacation 2.0 will be in Atlanta for a couple of months. We were told that it filmed in Tucker on Tuesday and planned to set up shop at a restaurant in Atlanta’s Westside area on Wednesday.
Plans also call for an upcoming multiday shoot in Midtown. A notice sent to affected businesses and residents indicated that filming would take place during the first 10 days of October. Areas affected include Piedmont Avenue and Myrtle and Juniper streets between Fourth and Seventh streets. Keep an eye out for a giant wood-paneled station wagon during that time frame.
