Just Jamia: Gwinnett actress/singer aims to be one-name wonder
Last month you could have called her Jamia Simone Nash. Or you could have called her Jamia Nash. And, celebritywise, this month you'd be wrong with either.
Gwinnett County's celebrated 11-year-old Oscar show singer and "August Rush" co-star is now, according to her father and manager, James Nash, officially going only by her first name — Jamia.
Such a move certainly didn't hurt Beyoncé, Monica, Brandy and others.
In recent weeks, James Nash's Atlanta-based Popular Entertainment Group, which he formed with Jason Janifer, has joined with the Los Angeles talent management group the Firm to oversee Jamia's career.
The Firm's client list has included Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The elder Nash says that his daughter will appear on CBS' "The Young and the Restless" this summer.
Jamia is also represented by Creative Artists Agency.

The GSU team's "Volunteer" was made by David Bradley, Stephanie Busing, Meg Chambers, Kevin Daniel and David McLendon. The Tech team's "The Art of Overcoming Poverty" was made by Nathan Black, Jorge Guzman, Greg Koo, Nadia Moreno and Ryan Baker.
The category winner — "The Street Crusade" — was made by a team from Boston's Emerson College, which won $10,000.

Tickets: www.gcapp.org. ... On May 16, another two-time Oscar winner, Gene Hackman, and his writing partner, Daniel Lenihan, will appear at the Atlanta History Center to talk about their new book, "Escape From Andersonville," as part of the Margaret Mitchell House & Museum's literary series and benefiting the PEN/Faulkner Writers in Schools program. MARK YOUR CALENDAR: On Mother's Day (for the uninformed, that will be Sunday), Landmark's Midtown Art Cinema will show the "Placido Domingo 40th Anniversary Gala Concert" at 2 p.m. ... The original Rambo movie, "First Blood," in which Sylvester Stallone first played John Rambo, will be screened Thursday at participating theaters nationwide, including the Tinseltown, Atlantic Station, the Regal 22 in Austell, the Mall of Georgia, the Hollywood 24, Arbor Place Mall, Medlock Crossing, Town Center and Snellville Oaks. One might wonder: Why? Perhaps it's because of the release of the British comedy "Son of Rambow," which arrives in Atlanta on May 16 as a celebration of sorts of Stallone's 1982 film. www.fathomevents.com.
DISNEY CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC: In the footsteps of Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers will have their own 3-D theatrical concert film for Disney in 2009 based on their upcoming "Burning Up" tour.
