Hillary Rodham Clinton’s support of gay rights has earned her a special honor from the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The former secretary of state will receive its first Founder’s Award. In a statement Wednesday, the foundation cited a 2011 speech in which Clinton asserted that gay rights were human rights for helping envision a world without AIDS.

Others honorees include celebrity chef Sandra Lee, business mogul Ronald Perelman and Howard Rose, a founding board member of the organization. They will be feted during the foundation’s annual benefit on Oct. 15 in New York City, hosted by Anderson Cooper. Former President Bill Clinton was given an award in 2009.
