Bobbi Kristina Brown has been buried. Perhaps one day, she can rest in peace.
The daughter of the late Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, N.J., by her mother’s grave, on Monday after a service in Newark. Singer Dionne Warwick, a cousin, was among the mourners who gathered for the homegoing at Whigham Funeral Home. That funeral home also handled the arrangements when Houston died in 2012.
Monday’s somber proceedings followed Brown’s Saturday memorial in Alpharetta, a gathering marred by family discord that spilled out of the church and in front of the waiting media scrum.
Leolah Brown, one of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s aunts, stormed out of the Saturday service and later expounded further via social media on the issues troubling her, many of which involve another aunt, Pat Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s legally appointed co-guardian and executor of Whitney Houston’s will. Bobbi Kristina Brown was her mother’s sole heir; it’s unclear who gets what now that the 22-year-old has passed away as well.
Pat Houston was among the mourners in attendance on Monday. It’s unclear if Leolah Brown was involved.
Bobbi Kristina Brown was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub in her north Fulton County home on Jan. 31. After months in the hospital, then a long-term care facility and finally, hospice, she died on July 26.
Tension among family members swirled throughout her medical ordeal, particularly while she was in hospice care in Duluth. At one point, someone supposedly took a photo of the incapacitated young woman and tried shopping it to celebrity media outlets, spurring outrage among her relatives at the time. Reportedly someone has sold a photo of her open casket for six figures, giving her family something new to fight about.
The Houston side of the family has had little comment, as has Atlanta entertainment mogul and close family friend Tyler Perry, who reportedly has served as peacemaker.
His latest social media post was short and anguished: “I’m a writer with no words…. Bobbi Kris.”
