As Bobbi Kristina Brown’s treatment continues, so does the investigation into her medical emergency, while new legal questions emerge.
Brown, who has been moved from North Fulton Hospital to Emory University Hospital, has been hospitalized since Saturday, when she was found unresponsive and face-down in a bathtub.
Initially the Roswell Police Department released some information about the case, noting that authorities had not detected signs of a struggle and had not found any drugs “out in the open.” A Roswell police spokesperson declined to comment on more recent reports that investigators did find drugs during a subsequent, more thorough search.
Brown, 21, is the only child of the late Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown. Each side of her family has issued separate statements requesting prayer and privacy. They appear unified, though, in claiming that Brown is not actually married to Nick Gordon, who discovered her on Saturday and began life-saving measures until emergency responders arrived.
Despite Brown’s many effusive social media posts referring to her “husband,” her relatives claim the marriage isn’t official, setting up potential legal wrangling over who is responsible for making decisions about her care and who would inherit her estate if the worst happens.
An attorney representing Bobby Brown said in a statement that his daughter isn’t and never has been married, The Associated Press reported. The celebrity site TMZ reported that the Houston family has echoed that assertion.
In yet another twist, an attorney representing Maxwell Byron Lomas, who was present at the time of Brown’s medical emergency, issued a statement saying that while his client does face drug charges from a Jan. 14 arrest, that matter is completely unrelated to Brown’s situation.
The statement said Lomas has pleaded not guilty and “has cooperated with the authorities investigating what happened involving his dear friend, Bobbi Kristina Brown. Mr. Lomas is deeply concerned for Ms. Brown and remains hopeful for her full, complete and swift recovery.”
