Almost all day Thursday through 6 p.m. Friday, News 95.5 & AM 750 WSB listeners will hear the sounds of inspiration and hope during the 14th annual WSB Care-a-Thon.
On-air personalities including Scott Slade, Herman Cain, Neal Boortz, Clark Howard, Erick Erickson, Mark Arum, Monica Perez and Dave Baker will take a break from discussing their typical topics such as politics, money-saving tips and home fix-it ideas. Instead, they'll share stories from the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Last year’s Care-a-Thon raised more than $1.5 million for research and programs, and the children at the Aflac Cancer Center are counting on listeners once again.
Donors at certain levels will receive an invitation to special events coming up. The first 100 people to make a $1,500 donation receive two spots at a Sept. 22 dinner at the Buckhead Maggiano's with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and his wife, Sarah.
The first 100 to make a $1,000 donation get two seats at a Nov. 4 lunch at Maggiano's with Atlanta Braves players Freddie Freeman and Kris Medlen.
Both events will give donors a chance to meet and greet and pose for pictures, and will feature Q&A sessions with the athletes.
"We're really fortunate to have these guys," said Shelton Stevens, senior development officer at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
The 14th annual Care-a-Thon will feature patients’ families from throughout metro Atlanta and beyond, and during designated hours, donors will be able to have their pledges matched by companies and individuals. Chick-fil-A, Loving Spoonfuls, McDonald’s, Moe’s Southwest Grill and Slopes BBQ are donating food for the radio crew throughout the event.
