Shakerag Bluegrass Festival at Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater

This two-day celebration of picking and grinning is a separate event in conjunction with the Shakerag Arts & Crafts Festival. The Fred serves as the playing field for a bevy of bands. Bluegrass begins sprouting on Saturday with the Larios Brothers, Blue Heaven, Exception To The Rule and Steel String Session. On Sunday, the music continues starring the Kris Youmans Band, Nancy Creek, the Musselwhite Family and Bullsboro. Tickets are general admission, so snag the best seat they can.

JapanFest 2010 at Gwinnett Center Convention Center

The land of the rising sun rises in Duluth for one of the biggest cultural fests of its kind in the nation. This year’s theme is Discover Japan, which explores the country’s various regions. Everything you could possibly want to see and learn about Japanese culture resides under one roof. Taiko drum concerts, martial arts demonstrations, dancers, kiddie activities, traditional music, Japanese food and a beer garden are just a few of the things you’ll find. Among the highlights are performances by The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York. Aishu Kamen will be doing his wacky one-man show for the whole family. And NASCAR fans can score an autograph from racer Akinori Ogata and get an up-close-and-personal look at his car.
