The Classic Motorsports Mitty at Road Atlanta

Since it started its engine in 1978, this classic car event has become one of the biggest of its kind on the East Coast. It’s an indulgence of historically significant race cars, which will be on display and circling the Road Atlanta track. Car hounds can get up close and personal with the cars that have graced winner’s circles throughout the years. You might catch a glimpse of rides including a MSA Camel GT, a SCCA Trans-Am and NASCAR Winston Cup cars. Mazda is this year’s feature model and famed Mazda racer Jim Downing serves as grand marshal. The second round of the 2011 Classic Motorsports Small Bore Cup, a race featuring small-bore cars produced before 1965, takes place, too.

Kenny G at Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater

He may be a punch line to some, but smooth jazz sax man Kenny G has sold more than 75 million discs worldwide. He and his trademark bundle of curls take the stage at the Fred, launching the venue’s 2011 Summer Concert Series. The Grammy winner will be performing choice cuts culled from his 23 albums. The set list of Kenny G’s Heart and Soul Tour will surely feature staples such as “Songbird,” “By the Time This Night is Over” and “Forever in Love.” Toni Byrd & Walk Up Jazz warm up the audience at 8 p.m. Kenny G is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m.

Atlanta's Exotic Bird Fair at North Atlanta Trade Center

So you've taken your kids to see “Rio” and now they have birds on the brain. Introduce them to the real things at Atlanta’s Exotic Bird Fair. Macaws, cockatoos, finches and more fine feathered friends will be for sale. Vendors also shill accessories and supplies, from feed to toys, at wholesale prices. Bird experts will be able to give tips and answer questions for inquisitive kids who have “Rio” fever.
