Blues legend B.B. King died Thursday night following hospice care at his Las Vegas home. He was 89.

The official time of death was 9:40 p.m. PDT, according to a statement King's attorney, Brent Bryson, made to the Associated Press. He died peacefully, his attorney said.

The musician posted thanks on his official website for fans' well-wishes and prayers during his recent time at a hospital and subsequent hospice care.

King's longtime business manager, Laverne Toney, has legal control over King's affairs.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and 15-time Grammy winner is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He is often referred to as "King of the Blues."

King's first big hit was "Three O' Clock Blues" in 1951.

He was notorious for his tour schedule, which was well over 300 nights a year during his prime.

King was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

Of his 15 biological and adopted children, 11 survive, according to the Associated Press.
