There are no surprises at the Atlanta Fair, but a trip to Turner Field’s Gray Lot will be just as fun for newcomers and veterans alike.
The annual fair got off to a slow start this year, opening for the season on Feb. 26 with low attendance likely due to the cold weather.
The fair will remain open for six weeks, so there will be plenty of opportunities for families, friends and couples to go for a spin on the Tilt-A-Whirl or view the downtown Atlanta skyline from the Ferris wheel.
From classic bumper cars to a huge “fun slide,” the Atlanta Fair is likely to entertain guests of any age.
In addition to the entrance fee, guests must purchase tickets to enjoy the various rides. The number of tickets needed for each ride vary from 2 – 5.
Individual ride tickets are $1.25, but tickets can also be bought in bulk at discount rates such as 25 tickets for $25.
If you can’t stomach the rides, enjoy some traditional fair food or attempt to win a stuffed prize or goldfish.
Funnel cakes ($6) and cotton candy ($5) aren’t the healthiest choices, but they're tasty and invoke a sense of nostalgia that makes a trip to the fair incomplete without them.
Fair attendees under 36’’ are admitted for $1. Everyone else is admitted for $3 on Mondays through Thursdays, $5 on Fridays and Saturdays between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and all day on Sundays, and $8 on Saturdays between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Attendees under 18 years old must be accompanied by someone over 21 years old on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The fair stops admitting guests after 10 p.m. Weather can affect hours of operation.
If You Go: Through April 2. Turner Field's Gray Lot, 655 Central Ave., Atlanta. Cost: varies. Atlantafair.com.
