Celebrate summer all season long with a bevy of entertaining activities. From movies for the family, a classic car show perfectly timed for Father’s Day and several concerts, these events at local parks serve as incentives to be outdoors. Boogie for a benefit: Rhythms of the River, a concert series presented by the Chattahoochee Nature Center in partnership with Atlanta Plays It Forward, will showcase musical performances one Sunday each month now through Sept. 20. From a 16-piece band to a jazz "divas," each performance will benefit local charitable organizations including the Child Development Organization, Auditory Verbal Center and Camp Sunshine. Performances in the park: "Performance on the Promenade," a free three-concert series by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in partnership with the Piedmont Park Conservancy is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, June 11, June 18 and June 25. Evening entertainment: Free and open to the public, the Fifth Annual Movies Under the Stars program at Hancock Park in Dahlonega will feature popular family films beginning at 6 p.m. one Friday a month throughout the summer. Shown on a 23-foot screen, families can enjoy watching "Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb," "Home" and "The Sponge Bob Movie: Sponge Out of Water"—in addition to a bevy of children's activities such as inflatable toys, coloring and free giveaways. Movie snacks and hot dogs will be available for purchase at concession stands; proceeds will benefit Enotah CASA and Lumpkin Youth Leadership. Classic cars: Just in time for Father's Day, Stone Mountain Park will feature a vintage car show featuring 1950s Camaros, Mustangs, Chevys from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 21. Cue outdoor concerts: Show off your fancy footwork at the Chamblee Summer Concert Series, which will feature a myriad of musicians performing southern rock, country and more at Peachtree Park. The concerts will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 4, Friday, July 24 and Aug. 28 and are free and open to the public. Attendees may bring a blanket or lawn chair.
