John Francis’ first home search coincided with his 30th birthday in January.
Francis, assisted by Benita Carswell with Bo Bridgeport Brokers, wanted a home with a yard and in good condition.
“I wanted something that didn’t have a lot of significant needs. I didn’t want to go, ‘Oh, this is a fixer-upper,’ and get into it and realize that the dollar sign I estimated for fixing the roof was going to be so much more than I was anticipating,” said Francis, a policy analyst for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The three-bedroom, two-bath home built in 1930 on Randolph St. N.E. was oozing with character. The Choice

Francis purchased the East Atlanta Village home, which is walking distance to restaurants, from Stokesman Homes in March. He purchased the home for lower than the list price, which had been dropped to $275,000, something he attributes to being able to close quickly. “(The seller) was so efficient and had done so much of his homework in the redo and the selling process, that he was a breeze to work with,” Francis said.
