Atlanta-based Tropical Smoothie Café will become the first national restaurant chain to offer a Los Angeles-based company’s plant-based, chicken-free products on the menu.

Whole Foods began selling Beyond Meat’s products last year, and it is the only retailer with the brand on its shelves in metro Atlanta. Beyond Meat says its products - a soy and pea protein blend - look, taste and chew just like chicken.

Tropical Smoothie Café, which has only a few locations in Georgia, but 338 across the country, said customers can replace any chicken item with the chicken-free strips at no extra charge.

The Atlanta franchise chain, which opened in 1997, sells real-fruit smoothies, specialty wraps, sandwiches, grilled flatbreads and salads. In addition to its current restaurants, Tropical Smoothie Café says it has 36 in development. The company has three locations in Georgia: Stockbridge, Columbus and Valdosta.
