Financial technology firm InComm announced plans Wednesday to add more than 275 jobs in metro Atlanta, about 125 of them at its downtown Atlanta headquarters.

Though InComm might not be familiar to most consumers, it’s likely most consumers have used their products and services. InComm is a dominant player in processing gift cards, prepaid debit cards, prepaid wireless services and rewards programs for many retailers and other major brands.

The expansion includes largely information technology jobs and about 100 positions in the company’s Peachtree Corners call center. Jobs also will be added in Suwanee and Alpharetta.

InComm has more than 1,800 workers worldwide and does work for more than 500 merchants. Best Buy and Apple are among their best-known customers.

Information about incentives was not immediately available, but it is likely the company will be eligible for tax credits for jobs created.

The announcement coincides with the holiday buying season, one of InComm’s busiest times. The expansion also coincides with a plan called ReUpGA – a plan by financial technology or FinTech firms and the Georgia-based American Transaction Processors Coalition to grow jobs here.

The state and local economic development agency have put a sharper focus on cultivating technology companies and financial technology is one of the state’s top economic development priorities.

More than two-thirds of all U.S. credit, debit and gift card payments are processed through Georgia companies, and about 70 payments processing companies generating $30 billion in annual revenue are either based in the state or have substantial operations here, according to data from the American Transaction Processors Coalition.
