Two Atlanta-bound flights were among those stuck on the tarmac for more than three hours in June, according to the latest federal report on monthly airline performance.

A Delta flight from Charleston to Atlanta was diverted to Montgomery on June 15, where it was stuck on the tarmac for more than three-and-a-half hours.

And on the same date, an AirTran Airways flight from Branson, Mo. to Atlanta was diverted to Birmingham, where it was held on the tarmac for more than three hours. Thunderstorms, hail and strong winds hit the Atlanta area that evening and affected flights.

Both flights eventually went on to their destinations.

Overall, Delta and AirTran both improved their on-time performance in the month. AirTran was 4th in on-time arrivals with 80 percent of its flights arriving on time. Delta came in 6th with 78.5 percent of its flights arriving on time, putting it first among major legacy carriers.
