Southwest Georgia Ethanol LLC, a plant operating near Camilla, is being sold to a subsidiary of Koch Industries.

The subsidiary, Flint Hills Resources of Wichita, Kansas, did not disclose the purchase price.The company’s business includes refining, chemicals and grain processing.

Southwest Georgia Ethanol emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection two years ago.

The plant, which opened in 2008 and employs about 60 people, has an annual capacity of 100 million gallons of ethanol. Among its many uses, ethanol is a solvent in varnishes and perfumers, is used in medicines and as a fuel alternative for vehicles.

Southwest Georgia Ethanol also produces dried distillers grains, which are fed to livestock, and non-food grade corn oil.

Koch Industries is also the parent of Georgia-Pacific, the Atlanta-based forest and consumer products company.
