Newell Rubbermaid, the Sandy Springs company that makes Calphalon pots and Sharpie markers, has added a chief design officer and has a new chief financial officer.
Chuck Jones, 53, will start next week in the newly created position of chief design and research & development officer. He was formerly chief design officer at building supply company Masco Corp. and has worked at Whirlpool and Xerox. Jones has received several design awards for his work.
In the role, Jones will work to make Newell Rubbermaid’s products more design-driven, he said in a press release. The company is in the middle of an effort to roll out a new business plan that gives resources and attention to products with the most potential for growth and to refocus on innovation in some categories.
Newell Rubbermaid also announced that deputy chief financial officer Doug Martin, 49, would take over for chief financial officer Juan Figuereo, 57, who will stay on with the company for several months to help Martin transition into the role.
Martin has been with the company for 25 years. Figuereo’s departure is a mutual decision, the company said, after he strengthened the company’s balance sheet. Figuereo became CFO in 2009.
