An Atlanta attorney who specializes in white collar defense will become the Securities and Exchange Commission’s new regional chief. This week’s announcement marks Walter Jospin’s second stint with the SEC.

Jospin will head enforcement and examinations in a five-state area as regional director of the SEC’s Atlanta office.

He currently is a partner at Paul Hastings LLP. The firm’s online site highlights Jospin’s work in white collar defense, mergers and acquisitions and other areas. He’s represented corporate interests in internal and federal investigations. But in the early 1980s he worked in the SEC’s Atlanta office, handling investigations.

Jospin will fill a spot at the SEC being vacated by Rhea Kemble Dignam.

The SEC had announced in September that Liban Jama would be the new regional chief. But in the SEC’s latest announcement it wrote that Jama “will not be taking the position for personal reasons.” Jama was senior advisor to SEC Chair Mary Jo White at the time of the initial announcement.
