International travelers arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport will soon be able to use kiosks for expedited passport control, similar to kiosks used at airports in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver and Montreal.

Plans are to install 36 of the BorderXpress kiosks on Hartsfield-Jackson’s international Concourse F and 38 kiosks on international Concourse E by June 1. TBI Airport Management manages Concourse E and the international terminal with Concourse F for the Atlanta airport and is buying the kiosks, which are made by the Vancouver Airport Authority.

Eligible travelers, including U.S. and Canadian citizens, can opt to use an automated passport-control kiosk at U.S. Customs and Border Control, when they scan their passport, answer customs declaration questions, get a receipt and then proceed to a final interview with an officer to finish the process.

“It doesn’t take [Customs and Border Control officers] out of the equation,” said airport spokeswoman Monica Fuentes. But, the “administrative part” of the Customs process can be handled by the kiosk, she said.

Unlike the U.S. Customs Global Entry trusted traveler program, travelers do not have to pre-register or pay fees to use the BorderXpress kiosks.
