Turner Broadcasting chief executive John Martin unveiled senior management changes Tuesday that bring in another executive based in New York rather than Atlanta.

Martin named Doug Shapiro, an executive with Time Warner, Turner’s parent, as the new executive vice president and chief strategy officer for Turner, which includes CNN, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and other cable and online holdings.

Shapiro will be based in New York along with Martin, who last year became the first Turner chief not based in Atlanta, where Ted Turner founded the company.

The announcement comes days after the announced departure of current Turner executive vice president Kelly Regal, who is based in Atlanta and was a key player in a broader reorganization at the company last fall. Also departing is Jeff Matteson, Turner’s senior vice president of communications.

Of Martin’s seven-member senior management team, two will be based in Atlanta, general counsel Louise Sams and human resources chief Angela Santone, who now becomes a direct report. A year ago, there had been three, including the company’s then-chief financial officer, John Kampfe.

In October, Turner announced nearly 1,500 job cuts worldwide. Two thirds of those were in metro Atlanta.
