A new biomaterials manufacturing facility is opening in Tucker.

Gov. Nathan Deal said Friday that Purac Biomaterials will open a $20 million plant that would create more than 30 new jobs.

The governor said “Georgia’s rich resources and assets within the bioscience industry” helped attract the Dutch company to move here. Deal met with the head of Purac’s parent company during a visit to Europe in July and toured the firm’s headquarters in the Netherlands.

The company develops and manufactures biomedical polymers under the Purasorb brand name. The facility is expected to be operational in early 2014.
