Thirteen metro Atlanta companies and law firms received perfect scores from a national gay rights group that rates organizations on their support for LGBT workers.

They include Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Newell Rubbermaid and law firm King & Spalding.

The Human Rights Campaign, one of the nation’s largest LGBT groups, invited more than 1,900 organizations to participate in its annual survey, from Fortune 500 companies to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. A total of 1,027 were rated, including 176 Fortune 500 companies that did not return surveys.

Nationally, 407 organizations got perfect scores of 100. The average score for all 24 Georgia organizations rated was 82.

They were evaluated in five areas: non-discrimination policies, employment benefits, demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBT diversity and inclusion, public commitment to LGBT equality and responsible citizenship.

Businesses increasingly are adopting gay inclusive policies as more and more Americans — especially millennials — have accepted the LGBT community. Gay adults also are projected to have a total buying power of $884 billion in 2016, according to Witeck Communications, a Washington, D.C.-based marketing and public relations firm.

“Corporate America has long been a leader on LGBT equality, from advocating for marriage equality to expanding essential benefits to transgender employees,” HRC President Chad Griffin said in a statement. “But this year, many leading U.S. companies have broken new ground by expanding explicit non-discrimination protections to their LGBT workers around the globe.”
