Metro Atlanta home sales lower in May; prices still rising

Metro Atlanta home sales continued to fall from the previous year, as inventory stays low and houses remain hard to find. But strong demand continues to push prices higher.

In May, sales were down 9.6 percent from the previous year in an 11-county region, according to the Atlanta Board of Realtors. Prices rose 13.6 percent.

Sales volume is up 11.4 percent from April to May, as the typical selling season gets underway, and prices were 8.7 percent higher.

In a statement, Atlanta Board of Realtors president Todd Emerson said price increases are bringing more “would be” sellers out from underwater. Median prices were $226,000 in May.

“As inventory levels continue to rise it creates more selection and opportunities for buyers either currently in the market or considering a home purchase in the near future,” Emerson said.
