More Zipcars are being added at MARTA stations, the transit agency announced Tuesday.

MARTA’s Bookhaven Station will get a Honda Civic and Ford Focus, which will be parked in the Peachtree Street parking lot near the Kiss & Ride.

There are more than 40 Zipcars close to 13 MARTA stations throughout Atlanta, the transit agency said. MARTA riders who are licensed drivers and at least 21 can rent the cars hourly or daily, starting at $8.50 an hour or $69 a day.

The cars are part of Zipcar’s national vehicle-sharing program. Once a person has signed up for a Zipcar membership - there is a $25 application fee - they can use their smartphone app to find a vehicle that has been reserved.

“Zipcards” are used to unlock vehicles, which already have keys inside. Drivers can use the app to extend a reservation. A gas card is inside for refueling if needed. Cars must be returned to their “home location” and after one is locked with the Zipcard, the user is charged.
