Mannington Mills, a producer of commercial and residential floor coverings, will expand a plant in Morgan County and add 219 jobs over the next several years.

An announcement by the governor’s office on Thursday said the Madison plant will double its footprint and quadruple its manufacturing capacity from the level it had in March 2012.

Mannington produces hardwood and laminate flooring, porcelain tiles and carpets at its plant in Madison, about an hour east of Atlanta. The manufacturer also has operations in Calhoun and Conyers.

The company said its investments in Georgia will exceed $50 million over the next few years.

Georgia has had a series of recent announcements about plants either expanding or being built. On Monday state leaders announced auto parts supplier Hyundai Dymos will build a new plant near the Kia Motors factory in west Georgia, creating 350 jobs, with hiring beginning in January.

Also this month, two suppliers of air-conditioning compressors for the automotive industry, TD Automotive Compressor Georgia and Toyota Industries Compressor Parts America, said they will jointly expand operations in Jackson County, creating 120 jobs in Pendergrass.

Mannington Mills, based in Salem, N.J., said it will break ground at the end of the year in Morgan County and it expects to have the 219 new hires by January 2015.
