Long security lines at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport continued Tuesday morning, with wait times of up to an hour.

Heavy morning passenger volumes led to lines snaking through the terminal. Airport officials are urging travelers to get to the airport at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours before their flight.

The Transportation Security Administration last week closed its Terminal South security checkpoint at the Atlanta airport for a three-week stretch as it redesigns two lanes with a new system that will be tested to determine if it can speed processing of passengers.

Lines are often long at the airport in the early morning hours. By mid-morning Tuesday, some crowds had eased, but wait times were 15 to 30 minutes at the main checkpoint in the Hartsfield-Jackson domestic terminal and 30 to 45 minutes at the Terminal North security checkpoint, according to the airport.
