She’s lived elsewhere and looked elsewhere. She came back to Atlanta.
Originally from Roswell, Katy DeLuca Lucey, 28, graduated from the University of Georgia. She was in Washington, D.C. for six years as an editor for a newspaper, but she was ready to leave journalism for digital marketing or social media.
After their honeymoon a year ago, she and her husband – also a journalist – decided to search for new jobs in new places, Lucey said. “We set a date of when we would move regardless of having a job.”
First, they looked at Chicago and Denver, she said. “While Chicago had a decent number of listings, Denver had virtually nothing.”
They eliminated Denver. They also started looking in Atlanta.
“Because the cost of living is so good and there were a lot of job listings in the fields we were looking at.”
Their lease was going to be up in March. They had “some leads” in Atlanta. They decided to move.
“I think Atlanta is a great market,” Lucey said. “Lots of big companies and smaller ones. Lots of opportunities.”
She still doesn’t have a job - but not for the same reason as most people who are looking.
She turned down her first offer because it “just didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I thought I would regret it but as time moves on, it feels like the right decision.”
