Two Atlanta-based companies, Home Depot and PulteGroup, reached milestones this year in either renovating or building homes for veterans and their families.

Home Depot announced employee volunteers had renovated 2,500 homes for veterans as part of the home improvement retailer’s “Celebration of Service” campaign, which began Sept. 11. The campaign is in its fourth year and the company more than doubled its original goal of transforming 1,000 homes during the two-month period.

Home Depot said more than 13,000 associates volunteered their days off to work on homes or housing facilities for disabled and aging veterans. They worked on homes in 500 cities across the country.

Homebuilder PulteGroup said its “Built to Honor” program reached its goal of building a new home each for 20 veterans and their families. The most recent homes were built in Texas, in Houston, Austin and Fort Worth.

PulteGroup construction teams and employees worked with veterans to customize their homes to meet their physical needs. In addition to Atlanta, homes also have been built in Albuquerque, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Nashville, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Antonio, Sarasota, and Tampa. Homes are also planned near Chicago, Florence, N.J., and Beaufort, S.C..
