The Home Depot Foundation’s “Celebration of Service” kicks off Thursday to help improve the homes of veterans and their families.

The charitable arm of home improvement giant Home Depot on Thursday will kick off a two-month campaign to help improve the homes of veterans and their families.

The Home Depot Foundation’s “Celebration of Service” will match volunteers from the chain with local and national nonprofit organizations, such as The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, to complete projects for veterans, including house repairs, landscaping and interior projects.

The Foundation said it has invested more than $160 million to provide housing to veterans since 2011 and will spend as much as $250 million overall on causes related to veterans by 2020.

“It’s an honor for us to give back to veterans nationwide, and in our hometown,” said Heather Prill, senior manager of strategic partnerships at The Home Depot Foundation. “The challenges veterans face are unique. Through our renewed investment and the time and talents of our associates, we are committed to improving their homes and lives.”

Last November, the foundation promised to spend $5 million for critical home repairs for senior Atlanta veterans over the next three years. So far, the organization has donated $2.6 million to non-profit organizations and completed 190 home repair projects in the area.
