Computing giant Hewlett-Packard said Tuesday it will consolidate customer support staff in Alpharetta and create about 200 jobs there as part of a sweeping restructuring of its business.
A spokesman for Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP said the company is combining call center operations, which it calls its Customer Solution Center, in Alpharetta from various offices around the world. The company is reportedly transferring jobs from at least one U.S. location, a facility in New Mexico.
HP did not disclose a specific location in Alpharetta, but the company has a campus along Windward Parkway near Ga. 400. The transition will occur through October.
Metro Atlanta has many major call centers. In June, State Farm, the Illinois-based insurance company, announced it would hire about 500 customer service workers for a call center near Perimeter Mall.
HP announced a restructuring effort in May that includes cutting 27,000 jobs, or about 8 percent of its workforce, over several years. The savings is expected to be reinvested in other ways, such as research and development.
HP did not disclose hourly or annual pay for the jobs.
