Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has launched a loyalty program to allow travelers to register frequent flier miles when they park at the airport or shop and eat at concessions.

The program, offered through Tyrone-based Thanks Again LLC, calls for travelers to sign up online, enter a frequent flier number and register at least one credit card or debit card to get miles when they use a registered card at airport parking, shops or restaurants.

The airport received city council approval last year for a $135,000 one-year contract with Thanks Again, and began offering the service last Thursday. The company has mileage partnerships with airlines including Delta, Alaska, United and American, but not yet Southwest.

Thanks Again said more than 95 percent of concessionaires at Hartsfield-Jackson participate and travelers can also earn miles at more than 170 other airports.

Hartsfield-Jackson aims to encourage travelers to spend more at concessions and use the airport’s own parking rather than off-airport private lots. Some off-airport parking operators already offer their own mileage reward programs.

Offering mileage rewards “makes us more competitive,” said Hartsfield-Jackson general manager Louis Miller. The program also gives Hartsfield-Jackson data on travelers’ spending patters. Thanks Again chief executive Marc Ellis said the company’s privacy policy and technology protects customers’ personal information.
