Corporate jet giant Gulfstream plans to create 100 new jobs over the next year or so as part of an expansion in Brunswick, company and state officials said Tuesday.
Gulfstream officials said the company plans a $25 million expansion of its maintenance, repair and overhaul hangars at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport. Ground-breaking is expected later this year with completion expected by May 2015.
The company said in October that it had a nearly $14 billion backlog of new plane orders, with the waiting list for its newest model, the eight-passenger G650, that stretches to 2017. The backlog stems from global growth in the sales of large and luxurious planes to major corporations, governments and ultra-wealthy individuals.
In 2010, Gulfstream announced plans to hire 1,000 people as part of a $500 million expansion in Savannah. But the company more than doubled its number of new jobs in less than half the time. In November, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported it had created 2,200 new jobs, and state officials said Tuesday that figure was up to more than 2,500.
