Global Payments Inc., a Sandy Springs-based credit card and debit card processor, said William Jacobs has been named chairman of the board of directors.
Jacobs, whose appointment becomes effective June 1, will succeed Paul Garcia, who has served as chairman since 2001 and lead director since 2003. Garcia is retiring, the company said.
Last fall, the company named President Jeffrey Sloan as chief executive officer, a position also held by Garcia. Sloan's new role also begins June 1.
Jacobs has served as senior executive vice president for MasterCard International and executive vice president for MasterCard Global Resources. He is also a co-founder of Financial Security Assurance Inc., a bond insurance company.
Global Payments also said John Bruno, an NCR executive, has been appointed to the board. Bruno is executive vice president for industry and field operations and corporate development at Duluth-based NCR, which makes ATMs, kiosks for the retail and travel industries and scores of other technology products.
