Georgia was not selected as one of six test sites for drones, the Federal Aviation Administration announced Monday.
Georgia was one of two dozen states competing to be designated a test site for unmanned aircraft systems, commonly called drones, with the hope that it could help drive economic development.
The six sites the FAA selected were the University of Alaska, Nevada, New York’s Griffiss International Airport, North Dakota, Texas A&M University and Virginia Tech. The FAA plans to use data from testing to develop regulations and operational procedures for the future.
The FAA said the six test sites “achieve cross-country geographic and climactic diversity.” The test sites will give access to others interested in using the site.
