For the 11th consecutive year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and AJCjobs is honoring and celebrating nurses throughout metro Atlanta and Georgia.

Again this year, from hundreds of nominations, an independent panel of judges has chosen 10 extraordinary nursing professionals to represent thousands of their colleagues at the annual Nursing Excellence Awards.

Held during National Nurses Week, May 6-12, this year’s luncheon was on May 10 at Cobb Galleria.

Diane Giles from Wellstar Kennestone Hospital was among the honorees who went above and beyond the call of duty to make a significant impact on their patients.

Giles was nominated by her co-worker, Jennifer Nack who in part, wrote: “Whether it’s getting a special order to take a severely depressed patient outside, staying beyond her shift to walk with her patients in the hallway, taking difficult assignments in the place of another nurse, or taking extra time to brush someone’s unkempt hair, Diane embodies what it means to be a selfless caregiver. She does whatever she can to support her patients, and most importantly, make them all feel loved."
