Delta Air lines says its employee pay is close to equal between men and women.

While women are paid 80 cents for every dollar paid to men in the United States, Atlanta-based Delta says it is at 99 percent for merit jobs.

Delta said it signed the White House equal pay pledge in 2016 under President Barack Obama and committed to doing an annual gender pay analysis and reviewing hiring and promotions "to reduce unconscious bias and structural barriers."

With Tuesday as Equal Pay Day, the company said its goal is to reduce the gender pay gap to zero.

Delta has nearly 32,000 employees in metro Atlanta, out of 85,000 employees worldwide.
